Tingly Stuff and Numbing Agents

Menthol

Most products that claim to increase sensation have menthol in them. Some people hate the tingly feeling of menthol and in certain concentrations it would be truly painful. Most products made for sexy bits that have menthol in them are much less than say, Tiger Balm. I met someone who put Tiger Balm on their clitoris and it hurt for days. DO NOT PUT TIGER BALM ON ANY PART OF YOUR GENITALS.

If you are super-sensitive, I suggest not using mentholated products at all. If you’re like me though, you might enjoy the little bit of tingle they can give you. The tingle will fade, so don’t worry if you don’t like it. Feel free to wipe it off with a warm cloth to speed it up.

L-Arginine

L-Arginine is an amino acid that is involved in vasodilation. That’s a fancy way of saying it helps bring blood into areas. When applied topically to the mucous membranes of the genitalia, it’s been found to be absorbed and increase blood flow. It is one of the most researched areas by pharmaceutical companies to help with “female sexual dysfunction”. O’My’s O-Gel has l-arginine in it, and I can say from my own personal experience that it made my clitoris feel warmer and more engorged. The O-Gel states that people with herpes should not use anything with l-arginine in it because it can bring on an outbreak. So consider yourself warned!

Anal-Eze

Hate. I HATE this product. I hate what it stands for, I hate what it’s meant to do. All this product does is numb you so you can’t feel pain. Pain is your body’s way of saying something is wrong. If you have pain when having anal sex or engaging in anal play, that’s your body’s way of saying slow down, add more lube or that maybe tonight is not the night to use something that size. When you can’t feel the pain, you’ll just keep on doing what you’re doing, and might hurt yourself. You won’t feel it then, but I can guarantee you that you will later!

It also implies that no matter what, anal sex will be painful and that it should just be put up with. No. No no no no no. A thousand times no. Anal sex doesn’t have to hurt at ALL. Please read Tristan Taormino’s book and/or Dr. Jack Morin’s. See the anal rules section as well.

Mr. Stud/Prolonging sprays

Just like Anal-Eze, sprays made to make men last longer contain a numbing agent, most likely benzocaine or lydocaine, and will make him unable to feel anything, supposedly making him last longer during sex. There are lots of techniques around to stop you from premature ejaculation, including wearing a cock ring and other techniques found HERE.

These sprays, if accidentally got on your partner will also numb them. Boo. Booooooooo! It’s better to learn the arousal/orgasm patterns rather than simply numb yourself into lasting longer. That’s no fun for anyone.
